Jaipur : Jaipur is a city where royalty still lives in the grandeur
of its palaces, where fighting for the honour of the clan has never been a need
but a way of life, and where treating guests as gods has been a tradition from time
immemorial. Jaipur got its name from its founder Sawai Jai Singh (1693-1743), who
had the vision to create a meticulously planned city as his capital. All the houses
in the old city are painted pink, including the famous Hawa Mahal, thereby giving
the city its alternative name, the Pink City.
Jaisalmer : Rising from the Thar Desert like a golden mirage is
the city of Jaisalmer. The Jaisalmer Fort etched in yellow sandstone stands with
all its awesome splendour. Life within the citadel conjures up images of medieval
majesty, visible in its narrow lanes strewn with magnificent palaces, havelis, temples
and typical desert life of men, women, cattle and camels.
Jodhpur : At the edge of the Thar Desert, the imperial city of
Jodhpur echoes with tales of antiquity in the emptiness of the desert. The massive
15th century Mehrangarh Fort at the top of a rocky hill soars 125 meters above the
plains. The city is surrounded by a high wall - ten kms long, with gates and innumerable
bastions. The culture of Jodhpur is unusually colourful and fascinating.
Udaipur : The city of Dawn is the Jewel of Mewar -a kingdom ruled
by the Sisodia Dynasty for 1200 years. Its kaleidoscope of fairy-tale palaces, lakes,
temples, gardens and narrow lanes strewn with stalls, carry the flavour of a heroic
past, epitomizing valour and chivalry. The reflection of these building in the placid
waters of the Lake Pichola is an enticing sight.
Agra : Agra is famous as the home to one
of the Seven Wonders of the World - the Taj Mahal. The architectural splendour of
the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces in Agra are a vivid reminder of the opulence
of the legendary Mughal Empire. Agra was their capital for nearly a hundred years
from 1564. A pleasant town, with a comparatively easy pace, Agra is known for its
superb inlay work on marble and soapstone, by artisans who inherit the art from
their ancestors. Carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather shoes are the other
things Agra is famous for.
Rajasthan : This dramatic region abounds
with tales of love, some happy and others tragic such the construction of the Taj
Mahal and the sad demise of Shah Jehan, its creator. This journey will take you
through some of the stories' settings and also includes a tented camp under an endless
sky and tiger spotting in Ranthambhore National Park.
